Frederic C. Torrey writes: I am obsessed with the belief that Joseph Torrey had a son, Joseph Torrey, Jr. An unrecorded will (Portsmouth Probate) dated January 29, 1670 of Thomas Cooke names, among others who were relatives and as one legatee, "Joseph Torrey, Senior." (Genealogical Magazine, Vol. 3, page 119.) There is a vague chance that this might lead to the discovery of Joseph's wife.
Thomas Randall, uncovered primary evidence of Joseph Torrey and his namesake son from the source Rhode Island Court Records: Records of the Court of Trials of the Colony of Providence Plantations, 1647-1662. Providence, RI: unknown, 1920-1922, Volumes 1 and 2, 200 pgs pages 2-71 & 2-72.
Thomas Randall writes "The very fact that Joseph Torrey is named as Grand Jury Foreman and Joseph Torrey, Jr is named as juryman on the same day and in the same place is, as I said earlier, proof positive that father and namesake son existed in Newport, RI in 1668." |
